Detachment 88 Anti-terror Police Arrest 2 Terrorists Jamaah Islamiyah

Medan – The National Police’s Anti-terror Detachment 88 Team arrested two suspected terrorists in the North Sumatra region. They are affiliated with the terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).

Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadir Jenderal Ahmad Ramadhan, said that the arrest operation was carried out on Saturday (29/1/2022). The two perpetrators who were arrested had the initials RMP and AW.

“Saturday, January 29, 2022, the Special Detachment 88 Anti-terror Team of the National Police have arrested two suspected terrorists on behalf of RMP, arrested in South Tapanuli and AW in Central Tapanuli,” said Ahmad in his statement, Monday (31/1/2022).

Ahmad explained that his party would detail the catch. Including the matter of evidence and search activities of a number of related locations.

Previously, the National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prasetyo stated that terrorism acts throughout 2021 had decreased by 53.8 percent compared to 2020. Sigit said his party was trying to take preventive measures before terror acts occurred.

“Regarding terrorism, the number of terror acts throughout 2021 has decreased by 53.8% compared to 2020,” said Sigit in a working meeting with Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Monday (24/1/2022).

Sigit explained that the decline was due to preventive strikes carried out by Densus 88 AT Polri. Sigit said, as many as 370 terrorists had been arrested before carrying out their terrorist acts.

“370 terrorism suspects have been arrested before committing acts of terror,” he said.
