The SOMTC event, which took place from June 19th to 24th, 2023, was attended by representatives from 10 ASEAN countries and an additional observer from Timor Leste. There were also dialogue partner countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, the European Union, the United States, and several other countries.
“This SOMTC event is a meeting of law enforcement officials to discuss the suppression, cooperation, and enforcement efforts against transnational crimes,” said General Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the Indonesian National Police Chief, after opening the SOMTC at the Royal Ambarrukmo Hotel in Yogyakarta on Tuesday (June 20th, 2023).

“We hope that this meeting, which involves law enforcement officials, can produce technical decisions that are operational, especially in law enforcement efforts,” he continued.
General Pol Listyo stated that the outcomes of the 23rd SOMTC meeting would be proposed for adoption at the ministerial-level ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crimes (AMMTC) 17th, which will be held in Labuan Bajo in August 2023.
“The formulations obtained in this SOMTC will be signed during the AMMTC meeting in Labuan Bajo, thus becoming a joint decision or the Bajo Declaration,” he explained.
General Pol Listyo hopes that after this meeting, cooperation in addressing transnational crimes can be maximized. He also hopes for specific policies regarding the pursuit of criminal perpetrators who flee abroad.
“Our hope is that in the future, the number of human trafficking cases can be reduced and the apprehension of human trafficking perpetrators can be maximized. Furthermore, we make efforts to rescue witnesses and victims abroad so that they can be brought back to Indonesia,” he concluded..
