Police Go to the Philippines to Handle Arrested Indonesian Citizens

Indonesian Police – Jakarta – The National Police immediately went to the Philippines to investigate the arrest of an Indonesian citizen (WNI) from Papua, Anton Gobay. Anton was arrested for possession of illegal firearms.

“The information I just received from Kadiv Hubinter (Irjen Krishna Murti) is according to the leadership’s instructions that today a team from Hubinter, Bareskrim and BIK (intelligence and security agency) are departing for the Philippines,” said Head of Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo when confirmed, Monday , (9/1).

Dedi said that the arrival of the National Police was to coordinate with the Indonesian Embassy and the Philippine police. In particular, conducting a joint investigation to explore the case.

Anton was arrested along with two Filipinos for possession of illegal firearms. Dedi said that Anton and the two perpetrators could not show documents of possession of the firearms.

“So, he was detained by the local police for further processing. The next step, if there are results of a joint investigation between Polri investigators and the Philippine Police, will provide further information,” said Dedi.

Anton works as a pilot in the Philippines. It is suspected that Anton supplied the firearms to the armed criminal group (KKB). However, this is not yet certain. Anton is still being examined intensively.

Previously, the Philippine Police announced the arrest of an Indonesian citizen named Anton Gobay in connection with possession of an illegal rifle on Saturday (7/1). Anton was arrested with two local residents in Sarangani Province, Philippines.

During the arrest, the Philippine Police also confiscated evidence in the form of long-barreled firearms. Among them are 10 Colt AR-15 units, a 9 mm Para Rifle, 20 magazines, and 10 unassembled weapons.
