Indonesia Police – The Task Force for Combating Human Trafficking (TPPO) of the East Java Regional Police has successfully uncovered three cases of human trafficking involving Indonesian migrant workers.
This was revealed by the Director of General Crime Investigation (Dirreskrimum), Commissioner Pol Totok Suharyanto, in a press conference at the East Java Regional Police on Tuesday (June 13).
Totok explained that the cases were uncovered through cooperation between the Ministry of Manpower, the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), and with support from the East Java Regional Police’s Directorate of Special Crime Investigation (Ditreskrimsus).
“During the operation period of the East Java TPPO Task Force, three cases have been uncovered. The first case has resulted in the identification of four suspects, namely MK, SA, and HWT, who have taken away 130 prospective Indonesian migrant workers,” said Commissioner Pol Totok.
The four suspects are charged under Article 4 and/or Article 10 of Law No. 21 of 2017 concerning TPPO, as well as Article 81 in conjunction with Article 69 and Article 83 in conjunction with Article 68 in conjunction with Article 5 letter (b) of the 2017 Emergency Law concerning the protection of Indonesian migrant workers, with a minimum sentence of 3 years and a maximum of 15 years.

“We are working together with the Ministry of Manpower, and currently the team is still searching for a fugitive with the initials CF,” added Commissioner Pol Totok.
Furthermore, three other suspects, according to Commissioner Pol Totok, have been detained for violations related to the 2015 Ministry of Manpower moratorium.
In the second case, the East Java TPPO Task Force, in collaboration with the East Java BP3MI, has successfully uncovered and identified four suspects. The East Java Regional Police has detained one suspect with the initials MYS, who has taken away 20 prospective Indonesian migrant workers, while the other three suspects have been placed on the wanted list (DPO).
“The team is currently pursuing three suspects with the initials HKL, KSR, and MS, who have been operating since 2016,” said Commissioner Pol Totok.
The suspects in this case will also be charged under Article 4 and/or Article 10 of the TPPO Law, as well as Article 81 in conjunction with 69 and/or Article 83 in conjunction with 68 in conjunction with Article 5 letters (b) and (c) of the relevant laws concerning Indonesian migrant workers.

Meanwhile, in the third case, the East Java Regional Police has identified a suspect with the initials APP, who was detained on June 9, 2023. From the investigation, it was found that the suspect APP had taken 6 Indonesian migrant workers to Cambodia without proper documentation.
Previously, the same suspect had taken 14 Indonesian migrant workers to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia, and planned to take 2 prospective Indonesian migrant workers to Japan.
“This suspect obtained profits of around 3 to 5 million rupiahs from agents in Cambodia,” explained Commissioner Pol Totok.
In addition to being charged under Article 4 and 10 of the TPPO Law, these nine suspects are also being charged with money laundering under Articles 3 and 5 of Law No. 8 of 2010.
Currently, the East Java TPPO Task Force is relentlessly pursuing the four suspects who have been placed on the wanted list. The task force has also frozen 16 bank accounts belonging to the suspects, with a total value of 17 billion rupiahs.
“We continue to pursue the fugitives, and the freezing of the 16 bank accounts, with a total value of 17 billion rupiahs, is based on Article 32 of Law No. 21 of 2007 concerning the eradication of human trafficking,” he concluded.
