Sidoarjo Continues to Pursue the Target of 60 Percent Vaccination of the Elderly in a Week

Elderly citizens (elderly) who are classified as vulnerable to decreased immunity in the midst of a pandemic, continue to be of special concern to get the Covid-19 vaccine injection. Therefore, the government together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the National Police continue to make vaccinations available for the elderly.

In Sidoarjo Regency, the acceleration of vaccination is now targeting the elderly. Given the data on the achievement of the first dose of elderly vaccination in Sidoarjo Regency, 47 percent. There is still 13 percent less to reach the target of 60 percent vaccination for the elderly.

To accelerate the formation of herd immunity for the elderly, on Thursday (14/10/2021) at the Joglo House, Jedongcangkring Village, Prambon, Sidoarjo, as many as 500 elderly people were injected with the Covid-19 vaccine. The vaccinations coincided with 500 people with disabilities, students and the general public.

Attending to monitor the course of vaccinations for the elderly, disabled, students and the general public at Prambon, were the Regent of Sidoarjo, the Head of the Sidoarjo Police, the Head of the Sidoarjo District Health Office, and the Forkopimka Prambon. On this occasion, social assistance was also distributed, as well as door to door vaccinations to the homes of elderly residents who could not be brought to the vaccination site.

The Regent of Sidoarjo, Ahmad Muhdlor Ali, appreciated the enthusiasm of the elderly to be willing to be injected with vaccines. This is a joint effort, from the Sidoarjo Regency Government, TNI-Polri, and stakeholders in handling Covid-19. Including efforts to accelerate vaccination for the community.

“Currently, the achievement of the first dose of vaccination in our region has reached 70.33 percent. Meanwhile, vaccination for the elderly is still less than 13 percent to reach the target of 60 percent of the first dose of vaccination for the elderly,” explained Sidoarjo Regent Ahmad Muhdlor Ali.

He is optimistic that within this week, the vaccination target for the elderly can be achieved. Through the acceleration of vaccination, targeting remote villages. “Like today, we are vaccinating the elderly and disabled in Jedongcangkring Village, Prambon,” he added.

Meanwhile, the involvement of the TNI, Polri and village midwives will also be more massive in order to mobilize vaccinations for the elderly in villages. Sidoarjo Police Chief Kombes Pol. Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro said that his party will prepare a mobile vaccination vehicle that will be driven by Bhabinkamtibmas, Babinsa and village midwives to carry out vaccinations in villages.

“We are intensifying the synergy of bhabinkamtibmas, babinsa and village midwives to support the acceleration of vaccination in villages, especially for the elderly. This includes a mobile vaccination vehicle that will be provided later, so that people in the village will be easily served by getting vaccinations,” said Sidoarjo Police Chief Kombes Pol. Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro.

The existence of door to door vaccination for the elderly, the elderly feel the benefits. As stated by Mujiah, 70 years old, a resident of Jedongcangkring Village, Prambon, Sidoarjo. He, who lived alone in his house, was surprised by the arrival of the Sidoarjo Regent and the Sidoarjo Police Chief, then invited him to be injected with the Covid-19 vaccine by health workers.
