IndonesianPolice – Indonesia continues to play an active role in United Nations peacekeeping missions worldwide. This time, the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, paid tribute and saw off the Garuda Bhayangkara Contingent (Garbha) FPU 5 Minusca, which is set to undertake a mission in Bangui, Central Africa. This departure marks Indonesia’s commitment to supporting global peacekeeping efforts.
The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has long been a part of United Nations peacekeeping efforts. In this mission, the Garuda Bhayangkara Contingent (Garbha) FPU 5 Minusca will play a crucial role in maintaining stability and peace in Bangui, Central Africa. The contingent consists of 140 Polri personnel, comprising 116 Policewomen (Polwan) and 24 Special Police (Polki). With their departure, Polri has now sent a total of 3,184 Polri personnel to United Nations Peacekeeping Missions in various countries.
Chief of the Indonesian National Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo expressed his highest appreciation to various parties who have contributed to the readiness of the Garuda Bhayangkara Contingent (Garbha) FPU 5 Minusca. In his speech at the Bhayangkara Field, National Police Headquarters in Jakarta, on Tuesday (19/9/2023), the Kapolri expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Police’s Internal Security and Intelligence Division (Divhubinter Polri), and everyone involved in preparing the contingent.

Before being deployed to the mission area, the FPU 5 MINUSCA Task Force went through a 7-month pre-deployment training phase at the Polri International Mission Center in Serpong. They have also been equipped with United Nations-standard capabilities, including handling riots, search and rescue operations, investigations, intelligence work, negotiations, counter-terrorism, VIP protection, sharpshooting, electronic communication, mechanics, and medical combat in battle situations.
Kapolri General Listyo Sigit Prabowo expressed his hope that the send-off ceremony would boost the pride and spirit of all personnel of the Garuda Bhayangkara Contingent (Garbha) FPU 5 Minusca. He also hopes that their mission will be carried out optimally and contribute positively to peace in their mission area.
In this context, Kapolri highlighted that, as per the United Nations Charter signed on June 26, 1945, the United Nations Security Council carries out peacekeeping operations to achieve international peace and security. This involves member states of the United Nations, including Indonesia.
