IndonesiaPolice – The National Police succeeded in securing two suspects who were allegedly involved in the crime of human trafficking (TPPO) in the Bekasi area, West Java. The first suspect was named Andri, while the second suspect was named Anita. The two are suspected of acting as labor recruiters in this case.
“We caught these two suspects, Andri and Anita, in the Bekasi area, where they both acted as recruiters for victims,” said Brigadier General Djuhandani Rahardjo Puro, Director of General Crimes (Dirtipidum) Bareskrim Polri, in a press conference held in the Hall Bareskrim Polri on Tuesday, 16 May 2023.
In their modus operandi, the perpetrators offer jobs in Thailand to victims and provide assistance in obtaining passports. Some victims were even temporarily housed in houses and apartments owned by the perpetrators.
The pattern of recruitment by perpetrators is very cunning. They did not involve migrant worker placement companies, did not use work visas, but provided assignment letters from CV Prima Karya Gemilang and used name tags to trick immigration officials.
“The victims were provided with letters from CVs, this was used to cover up immigration officials,” said Djuhandani.
The perpetrator also supplied the victim with round-trip tickets from Jakarta to Bangkok and illegally smuggled them to Myanmar.

In the job offer, the victims were promised to become online marketing operators with a salary of IDR 12-15 million per month. They are also promised additional commissions if they reach sales targets. However, the victim was employed for 12 hours a day, with only allowed leave every 6 months to return to Indonesia.
“Victims were given such an offer,” said Djuhandani.
Unfortunately, the reality is that victims are exploited by being given work contracts in Chinese that they don’t understand. They were placed in a scam online company owned by Chinese nationals and in a closed location guarded by armed men.
The victims were forced to work 16-18 hours a day, not according to what was promised by the perpetrators, and the salary that should have been given was never received.
If the victim does not reach the sales target, they will be subject to sanctions in the form of salary deductions and acts of physical violence, such as being dried in the sun, being forced to run, beaten, and even locked up.
“If the victims do not reach the targets set by the company, they will be subject to sanctions in the form of salary deductions, including acts of physical violence,” said Djuhandani.
From this case, it is known that 16 out of a total of 25 victims whose cases went viral were the result of the recruitment of the two suspects. Bareskrim Polri continues to carry out further investigations to uncover the trafficking network in which this suspect is involved and to protect and provide protection to the victims who become victims.
