55 Foreign Citizens Arrested by Bareskrim Polri in International Fraud Cases

IndonesianPolice – The Directorate of General Crimes (Dirtipidum) Bareskrim Polri managed to secure 61 people consisting of 6 Indonesian citizens and 55 foreigners in relation to international fraud cases in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta.

The Dirtipidum Bareskrim Polri Brigadier General Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro said the perpetrators were suspected of defrauding by claiming to be police officers to blackmail victims.

“What the suspects did was like when we cheated by calling, claiming to be the police, sometimes asking for ransom. These kinds of things are being done,” said Djuhandhani as quoted from kompas.com, Thursday (6/4).

Djuhandhani added, the victims of fraud came from outside Indonesia, such as Singapore, Thailand, China and others. The perpetrators used Mandarin in carrying out their fraudulent actions.

“Until now there have been no reports or we can get to the victims directly. Based on their testimony, the victims consisted of areas in mainland China,” said Djuhandhani.

According to Djuhandhani, the perpetrators were suspected of committing fraud using international network electronic media or illegal access, as well as using invalid visa travel documents.

After the police carried out the raid, the suspects were taken out of the house and immediately taken to the Criminal Investigation Unit building at the National Police Headquarters.

Until now, investigators are still looking for the perpetrators’ files and personal documents, such as identification and passports.

This was done to determine the origin and length of stay of the perpetrators.

Furthermore, Dittipidum will continue the investigation and cooperate with police units from the countries of origin of the victims.
