IndonesianPolice – The ASEAN Summit or ASEAN Summit will be held in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on May 5-12 2023.
A number of preparations have been made ahead of the meeting of the leaders of the ASEAN member countries.
Following are the preparations for the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo :
3000 people will attend
Main Director of the Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority Executing Agency (BPOLBF) Shana Fatina said at least 3,000 people would be involved in the ASEAN Summit. Starting from around 1,000 delegates to the ASEAN Summit, 1,300 security personnel, 1,000 committee members, and so on.
“The total delegation can be up to 1,000 people, from each country it can be 50-70 people. You can imagine around 3,000 people milling around on May 5-12 2023,” said Shana, Tuesday (4/4/2023).
The ASEAN Summit will be attended by delegates from 11 countries and the Secretary General of ASEAN. Meanwhile, the top event of the ASEAN Summit will be held on 9-11 May 2023 attended by all the heads of state of each ASEAN member.
“Even though the leaders are coming May 9-11, the crowds will start on May 5, because on May 6-9 there are meetings leading up to the summit on May 9, and the committee has filled Labuan Bajo since May 1,” explained Shana.

Prepare 250 Electric Cars
A total of 250 electric cars will be prepared to shuttle heads of state and ASEAN Summit delegates. The cars that will become the official vehicles of the delegation will be brought in by PT PLN (Persero).
Not only preparing electric cars, PLN is also building Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) in the parking enclaves of delegates’ vehicles, including in Golo Mori which is one of the ASEAN Summit venues.
“It’s true, there are around 250 electric vehicles for the official ASEAN Summit vehicles. The cars are driven by professional drivers, because they will interact directly with the delegation, then consistently use high protocols,” said Shana.
PLN Labuan Bajo Customer Service Unit (ULP) Manager Ridwan said the procurement of electric vehicles was carried out by the Ministry of State Secretariat. PLN only prepares SPKLU. “PLN is only preparing the charger (SPKLU). We have prepared seven ultra-fast charging units and 100 home charging units,” he explained.

2,000 Police Personnel Prepared
NTT Regional Police Chief Inspector General Pol Johni Asadoma said as many as 2,000 NTT Regional Police personnel were on standby to secure the ASEAN Summit. Not only the police, security also involved Paspampres and TNI.
“There are 2,000 personnel from the NTT Regional Police. But this is a meeting of heads of state, so Paspampres and the TNI are also involved. However, the Police are still assisting them for security,” said Johni, Wednesday (29/3/2023).
The NTT Regional Police, said Johni, had repeatedly conducted road surveys in Labuan Bajo. This is to ensure that when the 11 heads of state arrive, they don’t experience traffic jams, accidents and chaos.
