Indonesian Police – The 1st ASEAN Senior Officiais Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) Working Group on General Transnational Crime Matters (WG on GTCM) was held in Jakarta today (20/3/23). The National Police International Relations Division hosted the event.
Head of the Public Information Bureau Public Relations Division of the National Police, Brigadier General. Pol. Ahmad Ramadhan explained that the meeting this time was held in a hybrid format, with the majority of the delegates attending in person in Jakarta, except for the Singapore delegation who attended the meeting through a virtual meeting.
In this meeting, the delegates could discuss to look for joint steps and strategies to overcome the increasingly complex issues of transnational crime in Southeast Asia.

“Thus, the SOMTC WG on GTCM is expected to ‘strengthen cooperation between ASEAN countries in facing the challenges of transnational crime and strengthening integration in the Southeast Asian region,” said Head of Public Relations Office, Monday (20/3/23).
Karopenmas explained, the WG on GTCM is a new Working Group under the ASEAN mechanism which ASEAN member countries agreed to form in 2022. The purpose of its formation is to discuss transnational crime issues outside and issues that have been discussed in the other 5 SOMTC WGs .
For information, SOMTC has overseen five working groups on counter-terrorism (WG on OT), human trafficking (WG on TIP), firearms smuggling (WG on AS), illegal animal and timber smuggling (WG on ITWT), and cyber crime. (WG on CC).
