IndonesianPolice – Bali – Two Algerian citizens identified as HR (49) and AB (29), who reside at Sekar Sari Residence Gg Cipta Selaras Pemecutan Kelod Denpasar, were arrested by members of the I Gusti Ngurah Rai for stealing items belonging to three passengers at the international arrival terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport on Friday (3/3/2023).
This was announced by the Chief of the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Police, AKBP Ida Ayu Wikarniti, S.E., in her press release on Tuesday (7/3/2023). She stated that the case began with a report from the victim, Dinda Karin (34), a civil servant residing in Surabaya, East Java, on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 01.00 WITA, who lost a black bag containing a phone and clothes.
“The chronology is that the victim, Dinda Karin, arrived at Ngurah Rai Airport from Dubai on Friday (3/3) at 22.00 WITA and went straight to the parking lot to pick up her car. Meanwhile, her luggage was left beside the Pick Up Grab. Shortly after, she returned to where she left her luggage to put it in the car and realized that one of her bags was missing. The victim searched the international arrival terminal, but her belongings were not found,” she said.
According to the Chief, the officer who received the victim’s report immediately coordinated with PT Angkasa Pura’s Avsec personnel to check the CCTV footage. During the CCTV check, they received information that two other passengers had lost their belongings. One of them was a US citizen, Leila Simone Gbelia, who lost a bag containing a laptop and an iPad. The other was a Russian citizen, Sviatoslav Fomenko, who lost a passport, an ATM card, and a Russian ID card.
“The CCTV footage revealed a man who was suspected of being the thief. Our officers, together with Avsec personnel, conducted an investigation around the international arrival area and managed to arrest a man named HR (49), who is also an Algerian citizen,” said AKBP Ida Ayu Wikarniti, who was accompanied by the Co-GM of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport and the Manager of Avsec Ngurah Rai.
The results of the investigation showed that HR committed the theft with his accomplice, AB (29), who is also from Algeria. AB was later apprehended near the Masjid Al Iklas parking lot.
“The suspects will be charged with Article 363 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code and/or Article 362 of the Criminal Code, Jo Article 55 or Article 56 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum sentence of seven years in prison,” she added.
The authorities seized several pieces of evidence from the suspects, including a black leather bag containing clothes, a Samsung phone, a passport, a black bag containing a laptop and an iPad, and a white Vario motorcycle. The total loss suffered by the three victims is more than IDR 131 million.
