Police Help Recover Trauma Victims of Turkey Earthquake, Invite Children to Play Ball

Turkey – Indonesian National Police (INP) is continuing its humanitarian mission to help victims of the earthquake in Turkey. In addition to assisting in search and rescue efforts, INP is also providing support for the survivors’ mental health and psychosocial needs.

Brigadier Jenderal Gatot Tri Suryanta, head of the Turkish Humanitarian Mission Task Force 2023, said that one form of psychosocial support is by playing soccer with some of the local children and teenagers. This is done to help them recover from the trauma of the earthquake that caused thousands of fatalities.

“INP’s team invited the children and teenagers there to play soccer. Then, we gave them some toys, food, and fruit for the local residents,” Gatot said in a written statement on Thursday (2/16).

Gatot stated that INP has also set up a field hospital. The field hospital is intended to be a referral center for victims from the Kirikhan Hospital, which is already overloaded.

“Overall, the field hospital’s logistics management operations are still waiting to be arranged until they are ready to operate,” he said.

Furthermore, Gatot said that INP has set up two tents with a size of 12×6 meters. One tent will be used for personnel accommodation, while the other tent will be used for logistic storage.

“All logistical goods have been loaded in the area around the field hospital in Hassa,” he said.

Gatot explained that all of the activities carried out by both the INASAR and EMT teams are under the auspices of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as the leading sector of the Turkish earthquake humanitarian mission.
