Indonesia Police – Jakarta – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) instructed the police to reveal clearly and openly the clashes that occurred at PT Gunbuster Nickel Industry (GNI), North Morowali, Central Sulawesi.
Apart from that, the President also requested that the perpetrators be dealt with strictly according to the applicable law.
“Mr President, what is clear is that he ordered the police to take firm action against the perpetrators of criminal acts, the perpetrators of vandalism, and the perpetrators of breaking the law. to disclose this as openly as possible and also guard and oversee so that all operational activities carried out by the company can run again,” said National Police Chief Jenderal Listyo Sigit Prabowo, quoted from setkab.go.id, Jakarta, Monday (16/ 01).
Apart from that, continued Sigit, a number of troops from the National Police and the TNI have also been assigned to oversee and maintain the situation so that it is conducive again, so that operational activities at the company can resume.

“Currently, security personnel from both the TNI and Polri have deployed approximately 548 people and we will add 2 more SSK Brimob from the center,” said National Police Chief Jenderal Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

Chronology of Clashes at PT GNI Morowali Utara
It started with a clash at PT GNI which was reported to have occurred on Saturday (14/1) at around 21:20 WITA.
The riot started at the Pull Dump Truck which resulted in the persecution of Indonesian Citizens or Indonesian citizens by Foreign Citizens alias foreigners.
The clash then spread to the Smelter 2 section. The crowd involved in the riot threw stones at each other.
The riots continued until 22.00 WITA, they set fire to heavy equipment and cars. The mob is also suspected of looting the workers’ mess.
The North Morowali Police Chief and the joint team managed to disperse the mass on Sunday (15/1) at around 02.15 WITA. The situation was back conducive and under control.
Meanwhile, according to the version from the Central Sulawesi Regional Police regarding the cause of the clash at PT GNI, it began with a sweeping action carried out by the striking union against workers who refused to strike.
North Morowali Police said the clash between TKA and TKI PT GNI Morowali Utara, Central Sulawesi, occurred after repeated strikes by unions conducting sweeps.
