Religious Blasphemy Case
This case occurred when Pastor Saifuddin Ibrahim made noise with a video asking for 300 verses of the Koran to be deleted and revised. According to Saifuddin, these verses teach violence and terrorism. He also called Islamic boarding schools a source of terrorism.
The request circulated through a viral video. A man wearing a black shirt can be seen talking about terrorism and radicalism, and asking the Minister of Religion to rearrange the curriculum at Islamic boarding schools (ponpes).
“Because the source of the chaos is from an incorrect curriculum, even the curriculum at the Islamic boarding school, sir, don’t be afraid to change it. You examine it, change the teachers, because the pesantren gave birth to all radicals,” he said in the viral video. .
“Even if necessary, sir, 300 verses that trigger intolerant lives, trigger radical lives, and hate other people because of different religions are skipped or revised or deleted from the Indonesian Koran. This is very dangerous,” he said .
The Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) stated that Saifuddin’s statement had nothing to do with PGI and the churches. Saifuddin’s statement is his personal statement.
“PGI hopes that the Muslim community will not be provoked by such news. PGI also hopes that certain groups of news will not be used to make noise and complicate our harmonious situation,” said PGI’s Head of Public Relations, Jeirry Sumampow, to journalists, Thursday (17/3).
