Indonesia Natioanl Police – Papua New Guinea Police Agree to Combat Transnational Crime

IndonesiaNationalPolice – Papua New Guinea – Divhubinter Polri and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary/RPNGC are working together to increase the prevention and eradication of transnational crime in border areas.

One form of the agreement included exchanging information on fugitives who had fled to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

This cooperation was achieved in the points of cooperation as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the INP and RPNGC on Cooperation in Preventing and Combating Transnational Crimes and Capacity Building, which was signed in Papua New Guinea, Thursday (8/12/2022) .

“The form of cooperation that will be carried out is carrying out information exchange and sharing best practices in fighting transnational crime, carrying out coordinated activities in fighting transnational crime, especially at the border and providing police assistance in the process of investigating witnesses, suspects or fugitives who fled to Indonesia or Papua New Guinea,” said Kadivhubinter Polri Inspector General Krishna Murti in his statement to journalists, Friday (9/12).

With this cooperation, it is hoped that crimes across countries, especially at the borders of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, can be prevented

“With this cooperation, the two police will try to reduce the number of transnational crimes, especially in border areas and don’t try to use the border as a place to commit crimes or hideouts for criminals,” he added.

On this occasion, Inspector General Krishna Murti also conveyed the plan

One of the plans submitted to the RPGC is the existence of Border Transnational Crime Liaison Officers in all border areas of Indonesia, including those bordering Papua New Guinea. In addition, the former Wakapolda Lampung hopes that police cooperation between the two countries in the border area can be increased.

Offer Collaborative Training

The National Police’s visit to Papua New Guinea is intended to discuss some of the current situations related to the handling of transnational crimes committed by each police force in tackling transnational crimes in border areas.

In addition, several activities have been discussed in the context of strengthening the capacity of police institutions, especially through capacity building.

In the capacity building program, the National Police has offered training in the National Police Sespimmen to the RPNGC for managerial settings. In addition, the National Police also offers the Jakarta Center for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC) training program for technical arrangements.

Apart from that, the National Police also provides an opportunity for the RPNGC to take part in the UN Certified Development Course training organized by the National Police in collaboration with the United Nations. It is hoped that the capacity building program will improve relations between the two police forces.
