Jakarta – Korlantas Polri trained 264 VVIP guest escort personnel for the G20 Summit to drive electric vehicles that will be used as operational vehicles during the international event.
Head of Escorting Sub-Directorate Wal PJR Ditgakkum Police Traffic Corps Adjunct Senior Commissioner Pramono Jati said the escort for the security of the G20 event with electric vehicles, such as cars and motorcycles, so that his party deems it necessary to train driving these vehicles. “There is a significant difference between electric vehicles and conventional vehicles,” said Pramono in Jakarta, Tuesday, September 27, 2022, quoted from Antara.
The training for driving electric cars and motorbikes for 264 VVIP G20 guard personnel covers safety aspects for state guests and the public.
According to him, the guard personnel must understand the difference between electric vehicles so that there are no fundamental obstacles during the implementation of activities.
Pramono explained that the first difference between electric and conventional vehicles lies in the sound of the engine when the vehicle starts. For conventional vehicles, when the engine is on, the indicator makes a sound, while electric vehicles have almost no sound. “If the electric vehicle is silent, there is an indicator on the dashboard,” he said.
According to Pramono, recognizing the difference between electric and conventional vehicles needs to get used to the G20 guards. Various features of electric vehicles are also taught so that there are no fundamental obstacles that occur in driving the new vehicle.
One of the important things for G20 guards to know, he said, is the regenerative function. Electric vehicles do not have engine brakes or deceleration of vehicle speed when the gear (gear) is lowered.

In electric vehicles, the absence of an engine brake is replaced with a regenerative function which is divided into three levels from one to three. “Level one is smooth (slow), level two is stronger and level three if you are not used to it you can be surprised,” he said.
In addition to providing knowledge of electric vehicles, recruitment for the G20 event VVIP escorts also prioritizes trained and experienced personnel.
According to Pramono, the bodyguards have routinely practiced driving every three months at the Korlantas Polri. “They also prioritize those who have an automotive hobby so that they have a high willingness to learn about electric vehicles,” he said.
Of all abilities, said Pramono, the main thing is that the guards have the ability and driving skills to protect the VVIPs they are escorting and maintain the safety of the surrounding community, such as the ability to maneuver for ambushes. “VVIP and the community are safe,” he explained.
Even though they have mastered all the technicalities in the field, the guards will later be under the Operational Control (BKO) of Paspampres. Thus, for all security, they will coordinate with the Paspampres of each country.
Even though as a member of the BKO, he said, the National Police ensured that they had provided guards with proficient abilities in guarding the VVIP so that the G20 implementation ran smoothly. “Those who are trained are certain to have very proficient driving skills,” he explained.
The training to drive electric vehicles is gradual, starting with 50 personnel, then continuing for 214 personnel from the Korlantas Polri, as well as five regional police, namely the Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java and Bali Police.
Previously, on the commemoration of the 67th Bhayangkara Traffic Day, it was conveyed that the Police had prepared 176 electric vehicles consisting of 88 electric cars and 88 electric motorcycles to secure the G20 Summit to accelerate the use of battery-based electric motorized vehicles.
