Police Review Addition of Anti-terror Detachment 88 Personnel

AKARTA – The Indonesian National Police (Polri) is reviewing the addition of personnel in the Anti-terror Detachment 88. In addition, the Police also analyzed its development.

The Head of the National Police Public Relations Division, Inspector General (Irjen) Pol Dedi Prasetyo, said in the study it was estimated that thousands of personnel would be added. To be precise, there were 500 to 2,000 members of Densus 88.

“In the future, we will study the addition of around 1,500 to 2,000 (personnel),” said Dedi in his statement to reporters, Thursday (17/2/2022).

Dedi added that the thousands of personnel will be stationed in 34 provinces in Indonesia. This is done so that the performance of Densus 88 is more optimal in eradicating terrorism.

However, Dedi emphasized that the plan is still in the form of a study. Dedi said, his party is still calculating the number of planned additions to Densus 88 personnel.

“In order to be more optimal in the operation of mitigating acts of terrorism,” he explained.

Previously, National Police Chief General (Jenderal) Listyo Sigit Prabowo said he would develop the organizational structure of the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror Police. Sigit hopes that the number of Densus 88 personnel can be doubled.

“We will develop it. The number of personnel (Densus 88 currently) is 3,701, I hope it will grow and can be doubled,” said Sigit at the Senior Level Meeting of the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-Terror Police in Bali, Wednesday (16/2/2022).
