Zero ODOL 2023, Korlantas Holds Operation for Sanctions of Trafficking-Criminal Threats

Jakarta – The Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the Police held an operation to handle trucks over dimension over loading (ODOL). The goal is that there will be no more ODOL vehicles in 2023.

Dirgakkum Korlantas Polri, Brigadier General Aan Suhanan, said the operation was held for 14 days simultaneously throughout Indonesia. The sanctions range from fines to criminal threats.

“The criminal process is normal law enforcement, which means that it has to be an official report, investigated until a court decision, the threat is 1 year or a fine,” said Aan when reviewing the ODOL operation on the Cikampek toll road, Thursday (10/2/2022).

Aan explained, almost all of the vehicles caught in this operation violated the load or were overloading. However, there were also several vehicles that were caught due to over dimension.

In fact, there are some vehicles that are up to 200 percent overloaded. For example, the allowed weight is 20 tons, but the vehicle has a payload of up to 60 tons.

“Excess 40 tons. For traffic violations, we give a ticket, and if there is an addition, we will lower the excessive load,” said Aan.

Furthermore, Aan asserted ODOL as a traffic crime. He said, there were 57 cases of vehicle accidents involving overloading cases from April to December 2021.

“Besides causing accidents, this overload also results in high social costs. Roads are damaged, resulting in traffic jams and traffic accidents. As well as slowing the flow and congestion occurs. So there are a lot of impacts from this ODOL,” he said.
