The National Police’s Propam Division proposes to be given the authority to investigate criminal acts of members suspected of violating the law. This authority is to maximize the function of monitoring and preventing violations by police officers.
The Head of the National Police’s Propam Division, Inspector General Ferdy Sambo, revealed that the proposal had been submitted to the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. He hopes that in the future Propam will not only investigate ethical and disciplinary violations for police personnel.
“To increase the authority, not only to conduct examinations on ethical and disciplinary violations, we can also enforce the law on alleged criminal acts committed by members of the National Police,” said Ferdy in his statement, Thursday (3/2/2022).
According to Ferdy, the addition of this authority can further maximize the function of supervision and prevention of violations by police officers.
Furthermore, Ferdy said, this proposal emerged after the National Police’s Propam Division conducted a tour of duty to Polda with high levels of violations and the number of complaints from the public. Meanwhile, the visit was made to the Polda Metro Jaya, North Sumatra Police (North Sumatra), Central Java Police (Central Java), and East Java Police (East Java).
“The series of visits by the National Police Propam Division to Polda Metro Jaya is to provide guidance on the prevention of deviant behavior violations by members of the Police (Deviant Behavior Prevention) on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Polda Metro Jaya,” he said.
Previously, the Propam Police Division also conducted random sampling on the spot to the West Jakarta Police, Bekasi City Police, Setiabudi Metro Police, Daan Mogot Satpas, Bekasi City Satpas and Directorates at the Metro Jaya Police. This is done in order to check and re-check internal control.
