JAKARTA – The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo asked the TNI-Polri ranks and all stakeholders to be aware of the growth rate of COVID-19 ahead of the 2021 Christmas holidays and the 2022 new year.
The National Police Chief said that anticipation must be prepared to prevent the potential for increasing COVID-19 cases in Indonesia after the holiday.
“On this occasion because we will face Nataru, we know that with the COVID-19 rate control that we are implementing, community activities have begun to be relaxed because the level has been lowered in each PPKM. However, I remind you that we must not be negligent, ignore and be vigilant,” said the National Police Chief while attending a vaccination and social service activity held by Akabri 1990 at the Jaga Nusantara 1 (JN1) Building, Kelapa Dua, South Tangerang, Tuesday (26/10/2021). ).
The National Police Chief reminded, although the current number of COVID-19 in Indonesia has begun to be controlled, this does not necessarily make the handling and control of the pandemic no longer optimal in the future.
Therefore, the National Police Chief emphasized that discipline in implementing health protocols (prokes) must still be carried out even though the growth rate of COVID-19 has decreased. Especially, when facing long holidays later.
“The key is how in the midst of relaxation and the opportunity given for activities, the process must be carried out strictly and strongly. This requires discipline and awareness for the whole community to maintain the process because we can see that in some areas it has started to loosen, especially the use of masks, “said the former Police Chief of Criminal Investigation Unit.
The National Police Chief is concerned that there will be a potential for the COVID-19 number to rise again, especially during the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, if the public is not alert and careful. Given the high mobility of the community.
“If we are not careful when we face Nataru, there will be a high potential for mobility, crowds and this will have an impact on increasing the number of COVID-19. Because in our neighboring countries there are still fluctuations in the number of COVID-19,” said the National Police Chief.
The National Police Chief continued that Indonesia is currently ranked first in Southeast Asia in controlling the growth rate of COVID-19. According to him, this positive trend must be maintained going forward.
The National Police Chief said that collaboration between law enforcement, health care discipline, implementation of 3M and 3T, and acceleration of vaccinations is the key to keeping the COVID-19 growth rate under control.
“This collaboration between law enforcement, health care discipline, 3M and 3T and vaccination is a collaboration to keep the COVID-19 rate under control,” said Sigit.
On the other hand, the National Police Chief emphasized the TNI-Polri ranks and stakeholders to continue to synergize and join hands to realize President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)’s target of achieving 70 percent vaccination by the end of this year.
“The strategies that have been carried out starting from mass vaccination, door to door to touch remote communities, especially vulnerable people, the elderly and also people who do have certain risks must be implemented aggressively. Of course, this is part of the contribution of the TNI-Polri who join with existing stakeholders to be able to accelerate vaccination, which is the hope of the President,” concluded the National Police Chief.
