WALHI Applauds the One Million Mangrove Program of the Central Java Police Department

The Indonesian Forum for the Environment (WALHI) of Central Java has responded to the Central Java Police’s attempts to conserve the coastal environment and the economic recovery of coastal towns. Fahmi Bastian, the Director of WALHI Central Java, responded positively to the Central Java Regional Police’s initiative to plant a million mangroves through the Central Java Magi Segoro Regional Police program.

Planting mangroves provides numerous advantages for both the environment and civilization. Mangrove forests can help protect coastlines from erosion and restore the ecology around them. Furthermore, due to the impact of transportation and industrialisation on the north coast area, mangroves are able to absorb carbon.

The mangrove region may be used for ecotourism and educational tourism, which is good for the economy. Mangrove forests are also a popular fishing spot for anglers, as many little fish seek refuge in the mangroves to evade predators.

The WALHI Director cited a number of ecological crises in Central Java, including land subsidence in the cities of Semarang and Pekalongan, as well as a shoreline retreat catastrophe on the coast of Demak. Fahmi expects that the Central Java Police Department’s efforts to establish mangroves at 13 Polres would be followed up on by all parties.

“Mangroves come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and their products are employed in a variety of industries. It is due to the exploitation of groundwater for industry and people in Semarang and Pekalongan. Meanwhile, abrasion and modernization of the surrounding area generate Demak abrasion. Bhabinkamtibmas can empower the local population to assist in the maintenance and preservation of mangrove regions “He went on to clarify.

The government, particularly the second-level local government, must also regulate mangrove regions for their protection and maintenance. A lot of mangrove habitats have been converted to pond areas. This has an impact on the environment, he claims.

“There is, in fact, a governor’s order that mangrove regions be preserved. The rules are clear; all that remains is to reinforce them through regent or local laws or other means. Their application in the field is also included “He went on to say

The Head of the Central Java Police, Pol. M Iqbal Alqudusy, expressed his gratitude and admiration for the reaction of the director of WALHI Central Java through the Head of Humas Kombes Pol. M Iqbal Alqudusy.

“In coastal locations, we have a polair unit and a number of other units, including the bhabinkamtibmas. We’ll use it to keep track of coastal areas, especially the preservation of the mangrove ecosystem “he stated

The Central Java Mageri Segoro Regional Police Program, which will be based in Bendono Village, Sayung District, Demak Regency, will be started on October 12 by the Central Java Regional Police.

“Vaccinations and distribution of social aid would also be taken out for coastal villages, according to a later proclamation by the Central Java Magi Segoro Regional Police. The regional police head will also join the surrounding community for the clam harvesting event “He came to a conclusion.
