4 Sumatran Tiger Skin Vendors Successfully Arrested by Riau Police

Four people selling Sumatran tiger skins were apprehended by the Riau Regional Police. MY (48), a housewife, SY (62), SH (48), and RS are the initials of the four criminals (50).

The arrest took place in the morning of Friday, September 24, 2021, at one of the gas stations in Simpang Kubang, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency.

The arrests were made by a joint team from the Riau Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate, the Riau KSDA Center, and the Regional II Regional Section II of the Regional Gakkum Wil Sumatra Center, according to Riau Police’s Head of Public Relations, Kombes Pol. Sunarto.

The arrest began with information from the public about the selling of organs from a protected animal, the Sumatran tiger, according to the Riau Police’s Head of Public Relations.

“The criminal confessed that the goods will be sold for 30 to 50 million dollars to purchasers. For the time being, the culprits and evidence have been secured in preparation for the investigation “Riau Police’s Head of Public Relations stated the situation.

The criminals admitted to having snared and catching the Sumatran tiger. The culprits have been held at the Riau Police Headquarters as a result of his activities.

In line with Article 40 paragraph (2) of Law No. 5/1990 about the conservation of Biological Natural Resources and their Ecosystems, the violators are threatened with Article 21 paragraph (2) letter d.
