TNI-Polri Control Kiwirok Airport, 17 Residents Successfully Evacuated

JAYAPURA – A total of 17 residents have been evacuated from Kiwirok District, Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua, after the attack by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) some time ago.

The security situation in Kiwirok District has begun to be controlled by the joint TNI-Polri apparatus who have succeeded in controlling the local airport.

“Yes, we can control the airport,” said Direskrimum Polda Papua, Kombes Faizal Ramadhani, when contacted by telephone, Saturday (25/9/2021).

After the Kiwirok Airport was controlled, flight access had begun to be carried out smoothly because the KKB began to move away.

From Friday (24/9/2021) to Saturday (25/9/2021) this morning, at least four flights have succeeded in entering and leaving the Kiwirok District.

“A total of four sorties (flights), 17 residents have been evacuated and 31 personnel have successfully entered Kiwirok,” he said.

With this additional number, a total of 66 personnel are in the Kiwirok District.

Of that number, 56 people came from the Nemangkawi Task Force and 10 from the Bintang Mountains Police.

The security situation in Kiwirok District is known to have begun to be disturbed since September 13, 2021.

At that time, the KKB Ngalum Kupel, led by Lamek Taplo, was involved in a gun battle with the security forces.
