Police Anticipate KKB and KNPB Threats During XX Papua PON

Jakarta – The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) and the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) are the main threats to the XX 2021 National Sports Week (PON). This will certainly be anticipated through a simulation of the City Security System (Sispamkota) before the PON is held.
“It is also necessary to anticipate demonstrations being ridden by KNPB to try to thwart or create chaos during the implementation of the XX Papua PON,” said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, in a written statement, Saturday, September 4, 2021.

This issue is handled by the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the Papua Regional Police to protect each activity from the worst possibility. The police are also preparing to oversee and regulate traffic flow so that all personnel can understand it during the Sispamkota simulation on Tuesday, September 7.

The Directorate of Traffic, he said, would focus on escorting the contingent upon arrival in Papua. This is to avoid congestion, traffic accidents, to roadblocks by local people who refuse activities.

“The issue raised is how the security team handles residents who violate health protocols,” he said.

Meanwhile, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo asked all ranks of the local TNI and Polri to prepare a security strategy for the success of this national sporting event. He wants PON to run safely, peacefully, and smoothly from all forms of interference.

According to the former Banten Police Chief, the security strategy in the entire XX Papua PON sports arena must be prepared by security personnel in rings one, two, and three. Existing strengths need to be optimized.
