JAKARTA – TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo chaired a meeting with the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) Jayapura, Papua, Thursday (26/8/2021).
In his directive, the National Police Chief emphasized to Forkopimda Jayapura, to ensure readiness for the XXth National Sports Week (PON) and the handling and control of Covid-19 or the corona virus.
Regarding the XX PON, the former Banten Police Chief encouraged Forkopimda Papua to play an active role in completing the venue or location for the implementation of the national sports event.
“There are 44 PON venues in 4 city districts. Currently, it is less than 1 month leading to the implementation of PON XX, there are still various problems in the PON XX venue. This will hinder the process of implementing the PON. Forkopimda must play an active role in helping to solve existing problems,” said the National Police Chief.
By holding the XX PON, according to Sigit, it will encourage economic growth in the region. In this way, the local community will prosper.
“The implementation of PON XX will encourage economic growth in Papua in the second quarter of 2021, the Papuan economy with mining and quarrying by 13.14 percent, while without mining and quarrying by 2.81 percent,” said the National Police Chief.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indonesian economy began to grow by 7.07 percent. Meanwhile, the significant increase in gold and copper commodity production has caused Papua’s economic growth with mining and quarrying to grow positively since the fourth quarter of 2020. Papua’s economic growth without mining and quarrying grew by 2.8 percent.
The former Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police also appealed to Forkopimda Jayapura to pay attention to the handling and control of Covid-19, related to the implementation of the XX PON. According to Sigit, in the implementation, strict health protocols (prokes) must still be applied.
“Health protocols for the prevention and control of Covid-19 as well as vaccinations for all related parties must be implemented,” said the National Police Chief.
With the implementation of disciplined procedures, continued the National Police Chief, the implementation of the XX PON will run smoothly and public health from the corona virus can be guaranteed.
“PON XX Papua is successful and smooth, investment is safe, economic growth is increasing, Papua is more advanced and modern, society is healthy and prosperous,” said the National Police Chief.
On the other hand, the National Police Chief explained that the five regencies/cities holding the PON, Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Merauke Regency, Mimika Regency, and Keerom Regency, to date have the highest active cases in Papua.
Therefore, the National Police Chief continued, joint efforts with all parties are needed to suppress the spread of Covid-19 in Papua, especially in the districts/cities that host PON XX Papua.
“The BOR level in Papua is ranked 14th Nationally at 41 percent, a decrease of 11 percent from the previous 2 weeks of 52 percent. There are currently 14 isoters in locations with a capacity of 810 beds. It is necessary to pay attention to the 4 regencies/cities (Biak Numfor, Mimika, Jayapura Regency, and Keerom) which have high active cases but do not yet have an isoter. Efforts to shift isoman to isoter need to be carried out optimally with the help of the regional government, community leaders and regional leaders, “said the National Police Chief.
To suppress the growth rate of the corona virus, Sigit stated, for the Forkopimda Jayapura, to accelerate or accelerate vaccination of the community. According to Sigit, the Indonesian government pays special attention to meeting the needs of vaccines in Papua, especially in areas that hold PON.
“The government pays special attention to Papua by meeting the need for vaccine doses for the cities/districts hosting the XX Papua PON venue which will be sent from 15 to 18 August 2021 as many as 485,200 doses. Vaccination in Papua must reach 32,423 doses per day to reach the national target of 2.3 million doses per day, for areas that are the venues for PON XX Papua, acceleration must be carried out, especially to achieve 100% dose I,” concluded the National Police Chief.
